As a parent who lives in Perth, Ontario, but wishes to provide my daughter with the best possible options for a French eductation, I travel with her to Ottawa to attend De La Salle High Shool. It is a fact that students wishing to attend French schools when local "French Immersion" programs are not adequate, must travel distances and into territories beyond where they reside in order to be able to attain and achieve the best education possible. There are definitely not the same choices and opportunities for French speaking students as there are for English speaking students. Although it may not be feasible to offer all of the same services as are available for English language students/schools, there is no reason to have such a rule in sports that would limit the participants and cause greater hardship, difficulties and inequalities simply because French students must sometimes attend school in a different territory than where they reside. Such limits, unnecessary and without legitimate basis, impoverishes not only the student, but the sport itself.
