Paola doit revenir // Paola must come back

Parce que Paola Ortiz, déportée au Mexique il y a un mois par l’État canadien qui a refusé de la protéger contre la violence conjugale et sexuelle qu’elle avait fui en 2006, vit dans la peur et la possibilité d’être retrouvée par son ancien mari, officier de la police fédérale mexicaine ;

Parce que la déportation qui séparait Paola Ortiz de ses deux enfants âgé de 2 et 4 ans, de sa famille, de ses amis et de son milieu de vie, résulte d’une gestion inhumaine du phénomène des migrations humaines et de l’intransigeance d’un État et de ses représentants ;

Parce que les deux enfants de Mme Ortiz ont besoin de leur mère qui a aussi besoin d’eux ;

Parce que les femmes victimes de violence conjugale et sexuelle ne sont pas suffisamment protégées au Mexique, Amnesty International affirmant que « dans la majorité des 32 entités fédératives mexicaines, la loi [adoptée en 2007 et censée lutter contre les violences faites aux femmes] n’a eu aucun impact » ;

Parce qu’il y a quelques années, la Commission de l’immigration et du statut de réfugié faisait état au ministère de l’Immigration du Canada que « la société mexicaine perçoit en général la violence conjugale comme un problème relevant du domaine privé et comme un comportement tout à fait "normal" » et que, pour cette raison, « la police hésite à intervenir dans les cas de violence conjugale » ;

Parce que tout être humain a le droit de vivre dans des conditions justes, dignes et sécuritaires, avec les siens ;

Parce que la déportation d’êtres humains est une procédure répressive violente que nous ne tolérons pas dans un État dit de droit;

Les signataires de cette pétition exigent le retour de Paola Ortiz sur le sol canadien !

Whereas Paola Ortiz was deported to Mexico one month ago by the Canadian State which refused to protect her from the domestic and sexual violence she had fled in 2006;

Because Paola now lives in hiding in Mexico with the fear and the possibility of being found by her former partner, officer of the Mexican federal police;

Because the deportation which separated Paola Ortiz from her two children of two and four years old, her family, her friends and hermeans of living, results from an inhumane management of the human migrations phenomenon and the Canadian state's own intransigence;

Because Mrs. Ortiz's two children need their mother, who in turn need them;

Because women who are victims of domestic and sexual violence are not afforded adquate protection in Mexico, Amnesty International claiming that "in most of the 32 federal entities in Mexico, the law [voted to fight violences against women in 2007] had no impact";

Because a few years ago, Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada submitted to the ministry for Immigration of Canada that “the Mexican society generally perceives domestic violence as a private problem and as completely 'normal' behavior” and that, for this reason, “the police force hesitates to intervene in the cases of domestic  violence”;

Because EVERY human being has the right to live under fair conditions, in security and with dignity, among one's family;

Because the deportation of human beings is a form of state violence which must not be tolerated in a country that heralds the respect of human rights;

We the undersigned demand the return of Paola Ortiz on Canadian soil!
